I know for a fact it will take the changes, and the funding changes, that will be put in place on August 1 to really turn this club around, so we won't have to worry about it for another two years at the very least.

The AFL will need to change and you can't put more hurdles in its way than it already has by asking them to change the system to fix a problem that has existed for so long.

The problem is, if it can't get the issues dealt with, there's no reason why the AFL should be able to protect the team even if its board doesn't like them.

The way the AFL is operating – a system where one team wins by the most out of any team gets us nowhere. What is it? A system where winning team No.1 is going to win No.6, No.9, No.10 or no.12 depending on the outcome of a draw? Why? Why, in all human history, should the people of this land accept a system that puts the "failing" team No.3 first?

I've done my bit with the AFL by calling on their board, chairperson Matthew Pavlich and the executive to change the game, not only about money, but also about change of direction.

The first two items on the agenda of that policy are 'community benefits', where it is possible to receive more welfare from government funds, and 'community services' which will include funding for projects to support low income residents and ensure community safety.

Labor's policy of community benefits has come under fire from several parties, with Labor Senator Steve Field arguing the changes were about 'cheap welfare'.

Senator Field says the cuts mean that millions of Australians could lose their jobs.

'People will have to put up with living in slums or being treated like garbage and then they're going to be put on a waiting list,' Senator Field told AM.

'There isn't a place for people in this country to be in poverty on the basis they're the poorest in the country.

'So they're going to be affected by what's happening and those who have the most to lose are also the ones most in need.

'We're not going to spend money that could pay for that.

'People are going to be paying more for less and not being able to support their children on this taxpayer funded program.'

The Government is currently seeking public comments on its welfare policy after receiving the backing of the NSW Council of Social Services.
